Public Health Core Competencies

According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, the core competencies are "the essential knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for the practice of public health." Developed in 2006 by the Federal/Provincial/Territorial Joint Task Group on Public Health Human Resources, the core competencies were developed based on a value of equity, social justice and sustainable development - values that I hope to encompass in my work in public and community health.

The core competencies are grouped under the following categories:
  1. Public Health Sciences
  2. Assessment and Analysis
  3. Policy and Program Planning, Implementation and Evaluation
  4. Partnerships, Collaboration and Advocacy
  5. Diversity and Inclusiveness
  6. Communication
  7. Leadership
